Winding Lane Kennels is a full-service boarding facility for dogs and cats. The property is situated on 55 acres, located off of SilverBluff Road in Aiken, South Carolina, on Claw & Paw Court. Purchased in 1998, the original kennel, previously owned by Charles Warner, was completely renovated and officially opened on February 20, 1999. Kelli Hofstetter is the owner, and has been in the Pet Care Industry since 1990. Kelli has a special gift with dogs that enables her to work with hard to handle dogs. Her specialty is working with shut-down, stranger-selective, dog-selective, and feral dogs. She has also handled many dogs with bite histories. We accept all pets of all breeds, this is what sets us apart from other facilities.

Our facility, for both the dogs and cats, is heated and air conditioned. Units are set to 64-66 degrees in the winter and 65-67 degrees in the summer. Music is played 24 hours a day. The outdoor courtyard area is surrounded by 6 to 8 foot fencing, and every pet is exercised in the courtyard area 2-3 times a day at no extra cost. At this time, we do not offer community playtime, so each pet is exercised by themselves. The facility owner resides on the property. Pet owner may provide bedding, food, toys, and treats.
We have a small staff of 1-3 people with usually only 1 person working at a time. This has shown to greatly lower your pet's stress level during its stay.

Some of our clients are confused about how the boarding charges work. The charges begin the day you bring in your pet. It doesn't matter what time you bring them in, you are charged the full day. If you pick up your pet Monday through Friday before 11:00 AM, or Saturday morning, you are not charged for that day. Pickups after 3:30 PM during the work week, Saturday afternoon, or Sunday pickups, you will be charged a full day's board. During certain holidays, our hours will vary, please check our voicemail for specific hours of operation during these times. Special arrangements can be made to drop off or pick up your pet during off hours, but an after hours fee of $35 will be charged to your bill.
We are a small boarding facility with only two staff members. Sometimes we cannot always answer the phone during business hours, because we are busy taking care of the animals. If you call and get voice mail, please leave a message and we will return the call as soon as possible.

Kelli is CFO of Canine Hospice Animal Rescue, founded by Angela Wilson in 2020. We are a hospice rescue that takes in shelter dogs that are medically unadoptable. We care for them until their end of life transition.
We have always supported our local and non-local rescues and shelters from the time we opened in 1999. It's our way of giving back and helping in any way we can. We are specialty hosts for most of our fosters that come to us. They will typically be dogs that have a behavioral history that prevents them from being in a conventional foster home. We are equipped and have decades of experience with handling these types of issues. We allow the dogs to decompress and just let them be dogs, with no pressure or expectations. After they have settled in, we begin the work of trying to trigger the behaviors that they were surrendered for and we work with an amazing trainer to help facilitate their transition into a forever home.
Our prices are commiserate with other local facilities. Our prices are all inclusive, which means we do not charge for extra services like playtime, pet medications, or one on one personal care.

Domino is in our specialty host program and is in rescue with Boston Terrier Rescue of East Tennessee. He is currently going through assessment and won't be available for adoption at this time.
Bruno Mars is in our specialty host program and is in rescue with Boston Terrier Rescue of East Tennessee. He is a 4.5 year old neutered Boston that has completed the program and will be available for adoption soon!
Dottie Dooders has been in our specialty host program for awhile now and is in rescue with Boston Terrier Rescue of East Tennessee. She is currently in training that will help to transition her into a forever home! She is currently not available for adoption.
Bread and Shiny came to us as semi-feral litter mates that were being cared for by a homeless woman. They were brought into rescue with Hands 2 Paws and joined our specialty host foster program shortly after. They have come so very far but are still very skiddish of strangers. They are currently up for adoption, but would need a family willing to take the much needed time to acclimate them to their new environment. Both are 4 year old Neutered males.
Boo came to us back in June of 2011. He was dumped out of a moving vehicle and made his way up to us. He was in bad shape and we nursed him back to health. He is 14 years old and will live out his life with us.
It can be stressful to board your pet. If you have any questions or concerns about how we make your pet's home away from home, please reach out. We will get back to you soon!
